SCHOLARSHIP
- Carmel High School Band Boosters Scholarship - Award Guidelines - DUE MONDAY MARCH 5
- The Carmel High School Band Boosters awards a scholarship of $1,000 each year to a deserving CHS Senior. To be eligible, the student must be a member of the Marching Band, Guard and/or the Concert Band during their Senior year. Each student will fill out an application and write an essay on why they feel they are deserving of the scholarship. The selection committee consists of parent representatives of each of the Marching Band, Guard, Concert Band and a Band Booster Member appointed by the Band Booster President.
- There are no exact criteria in terms of selecting the winner; however, it has been agreed that the essay is the most important part of the application; the quality of the essay should comprise about 70-75% of the applicant’s strength. The essay should be well written, with correct punctuation and grammar, as befits a soon-to-be graduate of CHS. The essay should also convey how important the music programs at Carmel HS have been to the student, and possibly what the student has done in return for the CHS Performing Arts programs.
- The other factors in the judging process include community service, extracurricular activities, and awards. A copy of the application used in this determination follows. The judges will meet to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the essays, weigh in the other factors and determine the winner.
- The application forms given to the judges will not have the student’s names on them and the applicant will remain anonymous to the Selection Committee. However, certain answers on the form or information volunteered in the essay (such as “Drum Major” or “Sax Section Leader”) sometimes give away the identity of the applicant. There is no way around this quite often, other than the committee will judge each essay and application form as objectively as possible.
- The selected student will be notified prior to the May Scholarship Awards Night.
- OBTAIN THE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION FROM THE DIRECTORS AND TURN THIS COMPLETED FORM AND YOUR TYPED ESSAY INTO MR. COOK BY MONDAY, March 5TH, 2012
