SAFETY ON THE LOT
To protect our Members, Staff, performance instruments, flags, rifles, and backpacks, that remain on the parking lot Fields (which are the two areas surrounded by large brightly colored cones) PLEASE avoid driving cars, SUVs, trucks on this practice area BEFORE, DURING, and AFTER reheasal.  This area is your children’s stage and their outdoor classroom. Please avoid driving on their stage anytime.  On behalf of the Members, Directors and Staff, thank you in advance for your support in this important safety matter.  If you have any questions regarding this safety request, please contact Mr. Saucedo.

FRIDAY PITCH-IN, CARMEL vs LN!
The next Pitch-In is this Friday, Sept 16th, before the Lawrence North football game.  Thanks to all of our band and guard families for contributing such wonderful things for our Pitch Ins!  We are dividing up the way that food / items are assigned for the Pitch-In this week a little differently. Please look below for your child’s section for your assignment this week.  Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. for band members and uniform moms! The rest of us will begin eating at about 5:45.  Please be prompt if you plan to eat, the food goes quickly!  Please bring your contribution to the Backyard Barbecue Night at the CHS stadium parking lot by 5:15 p.m.* ( food should serve at least 12 )

NORMAL SCRIP PICK WILL BE AT THE FRIDAY PITCH-IN
Scrip pick up and SCRIP to Go will be at the Pitch-in on Friday.  There will be not Thursday pick up. 

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO HOUSE WALLED LAKE STUDENTS – Deadline September 30th.
WLC MBThe Carmel High School Marching Band will be hosting our friends from Walled Lake, MI again this year.  Walled Lake makes a sizable donation to the Band Boosters to host their students in our homes.  This is a major fundraiser for us and goes a long way to keep our band fees to a minimum.

Walled Lake would like to begin assigning students at the end of the month and Grand Nationals are not that far off.  There is much work and planning that needs to undertaken before then.  So far, we have volunteers for 25 of 88 girls and 28 of 72 boys.  Please consider volunteering to host these great kids in your home today!  Contact Kevin Cosgrove to volunteer or if you have any questions.

LAWRENCE CENTRAL INVITATIONAL, Sept. 17th
Parents…our first competition of the season is Saturday, September 17th! We will travel to Lawrence Central to participate in their invitational.  Please plan to attend the first Send Off of the season!  The Parent Pep Band will be playing, and we will give our Marching Greyhounds a spirited send off as they leave CHS and head to Lawrence Central. So after you drop your child, park the car and come visit with other parents and be part of the festivities!!  The current schedule will always be posted on the website.

As a reminder, please have your band member wear their blacks under clothes as they board the bus, and please remind them to pack their black socks and black marching shoes! Also, have your child bring their personal water jug full of ice water on the bus. Proper hydration is essential for peak performance! 

CARMEL JV COLORGUARD INFORMATIONAL MEETING, Sept. 21st, 6:00 pm
Do you have a middle-school age daughter who would like to find out what Colorguard is all about? Here’s her chance!
The Carmel JV Colorguard is open to all girls in 6th through 8th grade, who are currently attending Carmel, Clay, or Creekside Middle Schools. The Carmel JV Color Guard uses flags, props, and dance as an expressive interpretation of music that brings color and life to a performance. Members are trained in choreography for a four-minute show. The JV Guard competes in the Indiana High School Association competitions during the winter months.

To learn about this exciting program, please join us on Wednesday, September 21st at 6:00 PM, for an informational parent meeting. The meeting will be held at Carmel High School, Room # P105 (Band Room).

Carmel JV Color Guard is a wonderful opportunity to try something new, make new friends, perform in competitions, and have a ton of FUN! If you have any questions, please email Pam Colver, Director, or Dana Harrison, JV Guard Mom.  We look forward to seeing you on September 21st!

GENERAL BOOSTER MEETING, Sept. 28th
7pm in the Band Room

There is a lot of excitement and buzz about this year’s show! Come find out what all the excitement is about! Richard Saucedo will give a presentation about our show, “Going Viral”, including an explanation of the QR code and ‘Double Dream Hands’ and their use in the show. Jef Fur of Music Travel Consultants will also be there to give a brief Macy’s update and answer any questions. Please mark your calendar for this important meeting!

PARENT TAILGATE PARTY on Sept. 30th at Lucas Oil Stadium
Parents, mark your calendar for a special Tailgate Party on Friday, September 30th at the Jobsite Supply lot directly across from Lucas Oil Stadium. This year, we are playing Warren Central in Lucas Oil Stadium affording us the opportunity to have a true tailgating experience!! The Boosters have secured a lot right across the street from Lucas Oil Stadium for the exclusive use of our booster parent group.

In lieu of our normal Pitch In, Bub’s Burgers will be there grilling hamburgers and will also have other tailgate goodies for sale.  Alternatively, you are free to bring your own tailgate feast.

Menu prices are:
Hamburgers, $6
Chips, $1
Soft Drinks, $1

Under any circumstances, it will be a great time! This event is open to your entire family and guests.  Please note that due to their practice schedule in the stadium the band will have their dinner provided by the boosters at a different location. 

There are only a limited number of parking spaces to buy, so get yours right away! Parking is only $10 and will be good for both the Tailgate party and parking during the game. You can now purchase your space on the band’s website using a credit card or PayPal: PARKING TICKET (there will be a small convenience fee of 60 cents charged by Paypal) or at band events including the next Pitch In (Cash Sales only).  If you pay on-line you will still need to pick up a hard copy Ticket at this Friday’s Pitch-in or at the Booster Meeting on the 28th.  A tailgate party combined with a Carmel Marching Band pre-game and halftime show….doesn’t get any better than that! (oh yes, and you get to watch the Greyhounds play football in Lucas Oil as well).

A NOTE TO SPIRIT PARENTS: 
The Banquet Committee needs a picture of every marching band/guard participant. JPEG images are best and please make the name of the file: lastname_firstname.jpg.  Put the pictures on a CD and give it to Jim or Lisa Alred.  Please have them turned in by October 7th.   

COMMUNITY NIGHT, “A TASTE OF NEW YORK”, Friday Oct. 14th
The 2011 Carmel Marching Greyhounds are proud to present Community Night to be held on October 14th at the Carmel High School Football Stadium.
 
This year’s Community Night promises to be exciting! It will feature a “Taste New York” as we look forward to marching in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.  We will have multiple delicious food choices, our famous bake sale and a variety of other activities for  all ages.Look for our very own Coney Island complete with a bounce house and cake walk.   Of course, back by popular demand and representing, “Down Home in Indiana” the famous Cow Chip Bingo.  Look for Bill Eagleson at the football game Pitch-ins for your cow chip bingo tickets.  Pay close attention to upcoming announcements for more details.
 
Of course, the food, baked goods cow chip bingo and other festivities are only the opening act for the award winning Carmel Marching Greyhounds.  The show “Going Viral” will debut at 8:00.  Invite friends, family members, co-workers and other community members to share in the excitement of our 2011 show.

SPIRIT BUTTONS ON SALE NOW…Only $3 each
Many parents like to wear a button with their child’s picture to complement their Carmel Marching spiritwear. Most button pictures were taken before the first March In. Parents will be receiving an email from their section’s Spirit Parents in the near future with instructions on how to locate your child’s proof and order instructions.  Please be patient if you have not yet received that email. Not all sections have been completely photographed.  Custom orders will be accepted (ex, a picture of siblings).  If you have already ordered a spirit button, they are now ready for pick up! Look for Lisa W. Jones at Friday’s Pitch In. As a reminder, each button is $3. BAND AND GUARD SPIRIT BANNERS NOW FOR SALE!
BannerJust in time for the start of the school year…Marching Band and Color Guard Spirit Banners are now on sale!! Go to the WEBSITE to view samples and download the order form. Banners are $45 and can be customized. Color options include blue with gold lettering or gold with blue lettering. These are the house signs that were on display at the Volunteer Fair in April and are similar to what you see for athletic team members on homes around Carmel. BAND SCHEDULE
Marching band students should plan to take the SAT or ACT tests on the following dates:
ACT:  December 10, 2011; February 11, 2012; or April 14, 2012.  Students should NOT register for the October 22, 2011 ACT test! (ISSMA Semi-state)
SAT:  December 3, 2011; January 28, 2012; March 20, 2012; May 5, 2012; June 2, 2012.  Students should only register for the October 1, 2011 test if ABSOLUTELY necessary (ISSMA District at LC).  Students should NOT register for the November 5, 2011 SAT test (BOA Indy Regional)! 

REMINDER:  Please e-mail Mr. Kreke if you will be absent or late to rehearsal.
 
SCRIP NEWS 
Scrip pickup will be Thursday evenings at the practice field at the Stadium parking lot, weather permitting when the kids are practicing there.  Otherwise, pickup will be in the usual spot, inside the main entrance of the school (Door 1 off the circle) from 5-6pm.  ”Scrip-to-go” cards will be available for immediate purchase to go along with your weekly order.  Come check out the supply we have on hand.  Pick out Thursday’s dinner!.  

On the weeks when marching band has Friday Pitch-ins, SCRIP pick up and SCRIP to GO will be at the Pitch-ins and not on Thursdays. This will be on August 26th, September 9th, 16th and 30th (at Lucas Oil), October 7th.  Other future dates are dependent on the success of the football team and their playoff schedule.
