SAFETY ON THE LOT
To protect our Members, Staff, performance instruments, flags, rifles, and backpacks, that remain on the parking lot Fields (which are the two areas surrounded by large brightly colored cones) PLEASE avoid driving cars, SUVs, trucks on this practice area BEFORE, DURING, and AFTER rehearsal.  This area is your children’s stage and their outdoor classroom. Please avoid driving on their stage anytime.  On behalf of the Members, Directors and Staff, thank you in advance for your support in this important safety matter.  If you have any questions regarding this safety request, please contact Mr. Saucedo.

COMPETITION SEASON HAS BEGUN!
Congratulations to our Marching Greyhounds on their unbelievable (and wet) performance at the Avon Invitational! Understandably, we are all very proud of our Marching Band! While it is tempting to post a video of our amazing group on YouTube or Facebook to share with family and friends, please DO NOT post any portion of our Going Viral Show on the Internet until after Grand Nationals in mid-November. This includes not only competitive performances but also practice and half time performances at football games! The directors GREATLY appreciate your cooperation in this regard!!! 

NORMAL SCRIP PICK UP WILL RESUME THIS THURSDAY
Scrip pick up and SCRIP to Go will be at the Band Practice Field this Thursday, if the band is practicing outside.  Otherwise, it will be in the Circle.  There will be no scrip available at the Booster meeting or at Lucas Oil on Friday.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO HOUSE WALLED LAKE STUDENTS – Deadline September 30th.
WLC MBThe Carmel High School Marching Band will be hosting our friends from Walled Lake, MI again this year.  Walled Lake makes a sizable donation to the Band Boosters to host their students in our homes.  This is a major fundraiser for us and goes a long way to keep our band fees to a minimum.  Hosting two or more Walled Lake students during Grand Nationals is easy, fulfilling and fun!  All they need is a bed, breakfast and a ride to & from school at the same time as our kids.

Walled Lake would like to begin assigning students at the end of the month and Grand Nationals are not that far off.  There is much work and planning that needs to undertaken before then.  So far, we have volunteers for 42 of 88 girls and 36 of 72 boys, only half of what we need.  Please consider volunteering to host these great kids in your home today!  Contact Kevin Cosgrove to volunteer or if you have any questions.

PARENT TAILGATE PARTY on Sept. 30th at Lucas Oil Stadium
Parents, our special Tailgate Party is this Friday, September 30th at the Jobsite Supply lot directly across from Lucas Oil Stadium. This year, we are playing Warren Central in Lucas Oil Stadium affording us the opportunity to have a true tailgating experience!! The Boosters have secured a lot right across the street from Lucas Oil Stadium for the exclusive use of our booster parent group.  In lieu of our normal Pitch In, Bub’s Burgers will be there grilling hamburgers and will also have other tailgate goodies for sale.  Alternatively, you are free to bring your own tailgate feast.  Under any circumstances, it will be a great time! This event is open to your entire family and guests.  Please note that due to their practice schedule in the stadium, the band will have their dinner provided by the boosters at a different location. 

ONLINE PURCHASE OF TAILGATE PARTY TICKETS NO LONGER AVAILABLE! If you have not already purchased your Tailgate party ticket, please see Lisa Harbour at the Booster Meeting tonight. VERY FEW tickets remain….don’t miss out on the fun! Game time Friday evening is 7:30, so there will be plenty of time to travel to Lucas Oil and enjoy a Bub’s burger or your own picnic before kickoff! (No pregame show) We will have Brad Yount as our DJ for the evening! Don’t miss out on the pregame festivities! Parking is only $10 and will be good for both the Tailgate party and parking during the game. If you paid on-line, your pass was mailed to your home.  A tailgate party combined with a Carmel Marching Band pre-game and halftime show….doesn’t get any better than that! (oh yes, and you get to watch the Greyhounds play football in Lucas Oil as well).

TICKETS FOR THE GAME: Unfortunately, our CHS Season Ticket is not valid for this game. Tickets for the game are available at the school athletic office for $10 in advance.  They will be $13 at the stadium on game night.

MARCHING BAND UPDATE, Friday & Saturday
Parents…our next competition of the season is Saturday, October 1st! We will travel back to Lawrence Central for the first ISSMAC competition.  Please plan to attend the exciting Send Off beginning a little after 5:00 pm!  The Parent Pep Band will be playing, and we will give our Marching Greyhounds a spirited send off as they leave CHS and head off to LC. So after you drop your child, park the car and come visit with other parents and be part of the festivities!!  But before the ISSMA competition, we will be traveling to Lucas Oil Stadium Friday night.  The Carmel home football game against Warren Central has been moved to LOS.  The current full schedule will always be posted on the website

   4:00 PM:      Students Load Buses (with instruments)
   4:10 PM:      Buses depart CHS for Indianapolis.
   5:30 PM:      Rehearsal Begins. WEAR TOUR SHIRTS FOR REHEARSAL!!
   6:15 PM:      Dinner for all members at buses.
   7:30 PM:      Game begins, no pre-game, pep band tunes 1st half. 
 10:45 PM:      Buses and trucks depart for CHS
 11:45 PM:      Arrive CHS (most equipment can stay on the trucks and trailer until Sat. morning rehearsal).

As a reminder, please have your band member wear their blacks under clothes as they board the bus, and please remind them to pack their black socks and black marching shoes! Also, have your child bring their personal water jug full of ice water on the bus. Proper hydration is essential for peak performance!

“VOICE OF THE DOUBLE DREAM HANDS”

A NOTE TO SPIRIT PARENTS:  
The Banquet Committee needs a picture of every marching band/guard participant. JPEG images are best and please make the name of the file: lastname_firstname.jpg.  Put the pictures on a CD and give it to Jim or Lisa Alred.  Please have them turned in by October 7th.   

COMMUNITY NIGHT, “A TASTE OF NEW YORK”, Friday Oct. 14th
The 2011 Carmel Marching Greyhounds are proud to present Community Night to be held on October 14th at the Carmel High School Football Stadium.  We are headed to NYC but first, we are GOING VIRAL!

This year’s Community Night promises to be exciting! It will feature a “Taste of New York” as we look forward to marching in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. We will have a variety of food options offered by the popular food trucks and our own Chef Ernie, our famous bake sale and a variety of other activities for all ages. Look for our very own Coney Island complete with a bounce house and cake walk. Of course, back by popular demand and representing, “Down Home in Indiana” the famous Cow Chip Bingo. Look for Bill Eagleson at the football game Pitch-ins and the concert for your cow chip bingo tickets.  Cow Chip Bingo and other raffle tickets such as a 50-50 will also be available at the booster meeting as well as at Scrip pick ups. Pay close attention to upcoming announcements for more details.

Of course, the food, baked goods cow chip bingo and other festivities are only the opening act for the award winning Carmel Marching Greyhounds. The show “Going Viral” will debut at 8:00. Invite friends, family members, co-workers and other community members to share in the excitement of our 2011 show.

SPIRIT BUTTONS ON SALE NOW…Only $3 each
Many parents like to wear a button with their child’s picture to complement their Carmel Marching spirit wear. Most button pictures were taken before the first March In. Parents should have received an email from their section’s Spirit Parents with instructions on how to locate your child’s proof and order instructions.  Custom orders will be accepted (ex, a picture of siblings). If you have already ordered a spirit button, they are now ready for pick up! Look for Lisa W. Jones at tonight’s Booster Meeting or the next Pitch In or Send-off. As a reminder, each button is $3. Exact change is appreciated or make your check payable to Carmel Band Boosters. Questions or need instructions on how to make a custom order? BAND AND GUARD SPIRIT BANNERS NOW FOR SALE!
BannerJust in time for the start of the competition season…Marching Band and Color Guard Spirit Banners are now on sale!! Go to the WEBSITE to view samples and download the order form. Banners are $45 and can be customized. Color options include blue with gold lettering or gold with blue lettering. These are the house signs that were on display at the Volunteer Fair in April and are similar to what you see for athletic team members on homes around Carmel. BAND SCHEDULE
Marching band students should plan to take the SAT or ACT tests on the following dates:
ACT:  December 10, 2011; February 11, 2012; or April 14, 2012.  Students should NOT register for the October 22, 2011 ACT test! (ISSMA Semi-state)
SAT:  December 3, 2011; January 28, 2012; March 20, 2012; May 5, 2012; June 2, 2012.  Students should only register for the October 1, 2011 test if ABSOLUTELY necessary (ISSMA District at LC).  Students should NOT register for the November 5, 2011 SAT test (BOA Indy Regional)! 

REMINDER:  Please e-mail Mr. Kreke if you will be absent or late to rehearsal.
 
SCRIP NEWS 
Scrip pickup will be Thursday evenings at the practice field at the Stadium parking lot, weather permitting when the kids are practicing there.  Otherwise, pickup will be in the usual spot, inside the main entrance of the school (Door 1 off the circle) from 5-6pm.  ”Scrip-to-go” cards will be available for immediate purchase to go along with your weekly order.  Come check out the supply we have on hand.  Pick out Thursday’s dinner!.  

On the weeks when marching band has Friday Pitch-ins, SCRIP pick up and SCRIP to GO will be at the Pitch-ins and not on Thursdays. This will be on August 26th, September 9th, 16th and 30th (at Lucas Oil), October 7th.  Other future dates are dependent on the success of the football team and their playoff schedule.
