Clay Middleschool Bands

About the Band:
The Performing Arts Division at Clay Middle School is home to nearly 600 students.  Currently, over 300 students participate in the band program including, Beginning Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble.  Students also participate in Pep Band, Flute Choir, Percussion Ensemble and Solo and Ensemble, and many other small chamber ensembles which meet outside the school day.

 

Directors:
Mrs. Gretta Pote
Mrs. Gretta Pote is in her eighth year as Director of Bands at Clay Middle School where she directs the Beginning Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble as well as Flute Choir and Pep Band.

Prior to teaching in Carmel, Mrs. Pote was Director of Bands at Center Grove Middle School in Greenwood, Indiana where she served as Assistant Director of the Center Grove High School Marching Trojans, a consistent Bands of America Grand National Finalist and 1999 Indiana State Champion.

 

Her teaching experience also includes positions of Director of Bands at Plainfield Community Middle School and at South Marshall Middle School.  Mrs. Pote’s ensembles have consistently received gold ratings in state and regional festivals.  She is active as an adjudicator and guest clinician across the Mid-west.

Mrs. Pote received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky. She lives in Carmel with her husband Michael and ten year old son Devin. gpote@ccs.k12.in.us

 

Mrs. Rhianna Allen
Mrs. Rhianna Allen is in her eighth year as Associate Director of Bands at Clay Middle School where she directs the Beginning Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble as well as Flute Choir and Pep Band.

Prior to teaching in Carmel, Mrs. Allen was Associate Director of Bands at Milton High School in Alpharetta, GA where her teaching responsibilities included high school marching band, concert band, Jazz Band and Flute Choir.  Mrs. Allen’s ensembles have consistently received Gold ratings in state and regional festivals.  She is an active IMEA and ISSMA adjudicator in the state.

Mrs. Allen received her Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Ball State University in 2004. She lives in Fishers with her husband Mark, her two year old daughter Ansley, and their soft coated wheaten terrier Matilda.  Mrs. Allen is expecting her second child in August 2013. rallen1@ccs.k12.in.us

 

Awards and Recognitions:
Clay Bands participate regularly in both Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) and Indiana Music Educators Association (IMEA) events. Under the direction of Mrs. Pote & Mrs. Allen, Concert Band, Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble have received consistent Gold ratings each year at the ISSMA Organizational Contest.  The Wind Ensemble has received the honored “With Distinction” rating in 2013, 2012, 2010 and 2005.  The Beginning Band has also participated in the IMEA Non-Competitive Festival, receiving —– for their performance.

Our program could not celebrate its success without first recognizing the support of our administration, our parents, the Carmel community, the educators, and most importantly, our students.

Clay Middle School is located in the suburb of Carmel, Indiana, 15 miles north of Indianapolis.  Recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School in 2005, Clay Middle School enrollment is currently over 1,100 students.  Carmel Clay Schools is home to 11 elementary schools, three middle schools, and one high school, serving a total of 14,500 students.
