Carmel Color Guard
Our Mission
At the Carmel Guard, we strive to become the best versions of ourselves through diligence, confidence, excellence, and teamwork. We give all members a safe place to call home and we give our audiences unforgettable, cutting-edge entertainment.
Marching Band Color Guard
The Carmel High School Color Guard participates in two competitive seasons: Marching Band and Winter Guard. The marching band season starts with auditions in the spring and ends in November. Most of our basic flag, weapon and dance training takes place during this season. We will also learn choreography for a ten-minute show that will be performed during halftime at football games and marching band competitions. The guard performs alongside the marching band and provides a large portion of the visual aspect of the show.
The Carmel High School Marching Greyhounds are 6-time Bands of America Grand National Champions and 6-time ISSMA State Champions. The Carmel High School Marching Greyhounds were invited to perform in the 2014 Rose Parade, 2011 and 2022 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and 2004 London New Year’s Parade. In 2007 the marching band was invited to play on the USS Missouri with the Hawaii’s Royal Band.
Winter Guard
After the Marching Band season concludes in November, we begin our Winter Guard season which runs through spring. The winter guard performs in gyms and arenas to recorded soundtracks. Winter Guard demands more of the performers, as they are the main focus of the show. Because of that increased demand, members continue to fine tune their technique as well as develop more complex spinning and dancing skills.
Carmel H.S. has two competitive winter guards: the A Guard and the World Guard. Both groups participate in our local circuit, Indiana High School Color Guard Association (IHSCGA), and the national circuit, Winter Guard International (WGI), The Carmel A Guard competes at WGI Regional events, while our World Guard competes at WGI World Championships in Dayton, OH.
- Our Carmel H.S. A Guard has won 2 IHSCGA Scholastic Class A State Championships (2018, 2023) and were the WGI Indianapolis Regional Class A Champions (2018)
- Our World Guard won the highest honors in Scholastic Open Class in 2007 and was promoted to Scholastic World Class, the most elite class for high school units! The Carmel H.S. World Guard has won 8 IHSCGA World Class State Championships (2010-2023) and has won the WGI Scholastic World Class Championship 5 times (2011, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2023).
The Carmel winter guard program also offers JV Guard. Our JV guard consists of middle school students in grades 6-8 from all Carmel Clay middle schools. Their season normally begins in October and concludes in March. Our JV Guard competes in the local IHSCGA circuit (Indiana High School Color Guard Association).
JV Color Guard Callout Meeting will be held on October 23, 2024 from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm in Room P140 at Carmel High School.
