Concert Bands
Carmel High School boasts 2 freshman band (Blue and Gold) and 4 Wind Symphonies, which are known for their quality at the state and national level. Nearly 600 students participate in our concert bands each year. All concert bands are held as a full-year class during the school day; additional rehearsals and performances are held outside of the school day.
Carmel High School concert bands provide students with a balanced comprehensive study of music, which develops skills in the psychomotor, cognitive, and affective domains. Ensemble and solo activities are designed to develop elements of musicianship including, but not limited: tone production, technical skills, intonation, music reading skills, listening skills, analyzing music and studying historically significant styles of literature.
Students experience live performances by professionals during and outside of the school day. Students are required to participate in rehearsal and performance opportunities, outside of the school day that support and extend learning in the classroom. A limited number of public performances serve as a culmination of daily rehearsal and musical goals.
Carmel High School is pleased to offer two fully-weighted concert band courses for students who excel at musicianship, participate in two or more Carmel band ensembles outside of concert band, participate in state solo and ensemble contest, and participate in 2 additional group/solo performance opportunities outside of the school program.
The top concert band, Wind Symphony I, is a 7-time ISSMA State Champion and 26-time ISSMA State Finalist. They also are a 4-time performer at the IMEA State Convention.
