Carmel Jazz Bands
At Carmel High School, Jazz Band is a co-curricular class held every day before school, December – May. Jazz Band is open to any student who plays saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, bass, guitar or percussion.
Students taking this course develop musicianship and specific performance skills through group and individual settings for the study and performance of the varied styles of instrumental jazz. The instruction includes the study of the history, formative, and stylistic elements of jazz. Students develop their creative skills through: improvisation, composition, arranging, performing, listening, and analyzing.
In mid to late March, all Jazz Bands perform at the annual Jazz Expressions concert. This event is usually held in the school auditorium and includes a guest artist. In April, all jazz bands are showcased at the annual Jazz a-la Mode event. Jazz a’ la mode is a three night extravaganza held in our own band room, dressed up as a vintage intimate night club, with pie and drink service.
